The Names of God 3
I am the LORD, your Holy One, The Creator of Israel, your King. Is 43:15
I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, I will trust in Him”. Ps 91:2
Last time we were looking at the meaning of the name LORD. Let’s continue with that. In a number of instances the name LORD is coupled with another word which extends our understanding of God himself. In some of these the double name was revealed in a particular incident that highlights a characteristic of the LORD. There are ten of them and they are all relevant to our personal walk and experience with the LORD;
- Jehovah Jireh – The LORD will provide. Genesis 22:14
- Jehovah Nissi –The LORD my banner. (in victory). Exodus 17:15
- Jehovah Shalom- The LORD my peace. Judges6:24
- Jehovah Shammah –The LORD is there. Ezekiel 4:35
- Jehovah Tsidkenu –The LORD our righteousness. Jeremiah 23:6, 33:16
- Jehovah Rapheka –The LORD heals. Exodus 15:26
- Jehovah M’kdeshkem –The LORD who sanctifies. Exodus 31:13
- Jehovah Tsabaoth –The LORD of Hosts. I Samuel 1:3, Isaiah 1:24
- Jehovah Elyon –The LORD most high. Psalm7:17
- Jehovah Rohi –The LORD my shepherd. Psalm 23.
Have a look at the list again, and see how the double Jehovah names apply to Jesus;
- “God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19
- “God give us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”1 Corinthians 15:57
- “The peace of God which passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”Philippians 4:7
- Jesus said “ I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:20
- “Righteousness…will be imputed to us who believe in who raise our Lord from the dead.”Romans 4:5,22 – 25
- “By His stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5
- “Jesus Christ became for us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption.”1 Corinthians 1:30
- He is “King of Kings and Lord of Lords.”Revelation 19:16
- “Blessing and honour and glory …to the Lamb for ever and ever.”Revelation5:12- 14
- “I am the good shepherd.”John 10:14
Ah yes, The LORD our God is great and awesome.
