Holiday Clubs
During each October half-term, the church organises and runs a holiday club for children in primary school, completely free of charge! We also run a stay-and-play with tea and coffee downstairs during the sessions, so parents can stay with their younger ones.
The theme of 2024’s Holiday Club was ‘ROAR: Life Is Wild, God is Good’. Set in the Savannah desert, the kids spent the week learning about the story of Exodus, that in the midst of the storms of life, God is still good.
We learnt that when life is unfair, God is good: “The Lord is good, a strong refuge when trouble comes” (Nahum 1:7). We learnt that when life is scary, God is good: “Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me” (Psalm 23:4). We learnt that when life changes, God is good: “Give thanks to the Lord for he is good! His faithful love endures forever” (Psalm 106:1).
But most important of all, we learnt, through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, that when life is sad, God is good: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted” (Psalm 34:18).
We finished up our week of games, quizzes, Bible stories and treats with a prize night for both parents and children, giving the kids their certificates and teaching the parents about what we’d been up to!
Our Holiday Club was held from the 24th through to the 26th of October 2023, when we had a fun-filled week full of games, singing, quizzes, crafts and bible stories, all pirate-themed!
Each day we learned about how Jesus rescues us from life’s storms, using stories from the Bible!
Through the parables of the lost sheep and lost coin in Luke 15, we learned that when we’re lonely, Jesus rescues. Through the story of Mary and Martha in Luke 10, we learned that when we’re worried, Jesus rescues. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus, we learned that when we do wrong, Jesus rescues!
The theme of the 2022’s Holiday Club was ‘The Prince of Egypt’, which included an exploration of the life of Moses, using the book of Exodus to tell the story of him being rescued and hidden in the River Nile, right the way through to him leading the children of Israel out of Egypt and their life of slavery there.
We had a fun-filled week of games, quizzes, prizes and songs, all the while learning about God through the Bible, finishing with a prize night to recap everything we’d learnt!
